The shame of American Democracy
Thousands of Trump’s supporters stormed the Capitol Hill in a last minute futile attemp to halt the final constitutional formality process to endorse the certification of the result of the electoral college votes for the last November US Presidential Election that would pave the way for this coming Biden’s inauguration as the new President Of The United State Of America. on the 20th January 2021.
The security of the Capitol Hill was severely compromised when the protestors violently breached the gate of the Capitol Hill and reached up to the corridor of the very hall the congressmen had the session. The police was overwhelmed and the situation was only placed under control after the National Security Guards were deployed at the site. Three people were reportedly dead during the scuffle.
The protestors were earlier attending a rally at the White House and listening to Trump’s speech encouraging them to March to the Capitol Hill to “claim their rights from being robbed by the fraudulent election”.
The event clearly shook the nation to its core. People around the globe stared at the screen in disbelief. The democtratic pride of the nation were brought to its knee by those unruly shameful breach of the very symbol of the American democracy.
The aftermath was no less shocking. Even the Republican stalwarts deplored and disowned such barbaric act. Several Democratic congressmen/women swiftly sponsor a resolution to invoke the 25th Amendment to impeach President Trump from his office, less than two weeks before his eventual departure from the White House. The resolution says, “for every hour President Trump is allowed in his office, the nation is facing increasing danger”.
Some of Trump’s cabinet members and White House staffs had resigned disowning such shame. It was indeed a great shame to the American democracy.
